Being Your Own Storyteller

Why it matters–especially in interviews

Storytelling is a Superpower

A few months ago, I had the pleasure of attending the First Coast Romance Writers semi-annual retreat, where I led a workshop on author interviews. (I also recorded interviews with a number of the participants—more on that below).

My goal? To help authors show up with confidence and clarity whenever and wherever they’re asked to talk about their books, their process, or their writing life—because “interview” doesn’t just mean sitting across from a journalist. An “interview” can happen anywhere: at a festival, a bookstore, a podcast taping, or even in line at the grocery store.

Every time someone asks about your book, it’s an opportunity to turn a listener into a reader. And the key to doing that? Storytelling.

This is the author’s superpower. By sharing stories— about your book and your journey—you invite others into your world. You spark curiosity. You build connection. You make it easy for someone to say, “I want to read that.”

So what kind of story should you tell? . . . .
